Food and Clothes Pantry Operations Under COVID-19

Under the new environment of COVID-19 and the critical need to protect volunteers and clients from transmission of the virus, operations for SVdP-HT’s Food Pantry and Clothes Pantry are now outside our building.

Until the further notice, we cannot offer clients food selection and options available from our indoor product shelves and tables. Instead, food delivery is a drive up and walk up model. Outdoor operations occur under covered “car ports” and “tenting” to shelter our volunteers from summer heat and rainstorms, and to protect distributed food and products.

Client information must be taken through car windows or walkup sign in sheets. All clients will be asked to wear masks to protect volunteers who take information and deliver food. Our volunteers are masked and will maintain distance between each other and clients.

Diapers and personal care products will continue to be met on request and when available.

Clothes Pantry operations present additional challenges. Clothes Pantry clients cannot enter our building to shop for clothes arranged by size, gender and style. Instead, a small selection of clothes from our racks and shelves are arranged outside. Volunteers take requests from clients and present an assortment of clothes selected from our full inventory (inside the building) for client review.

Although the prospect of continued outdoor operations during the winter months poses additional challenges of frigid weather, sleet and snow, SVdP-HT’s Food and Clothes Pantry operations will continue.
