Dorothy Deany honored as Extraordinary Woman

Dorothy Deany, a long- time volunteer and board member at Saint Vincent DePaul Food Pantry, was named an Extraordinary Woman by the EOW Project of Bloomington-Normal in 2022. Dorothy has earned this honor. Her recognition is well deserved as she is a tireless contributor of time and energy at the pantry. She dedicates her efforts to organize, serve, and provide product to the pantry clients. Dorothy, alongside her husband, Bernie, are volunteering six days a week at the pantry.

Dorothy started helping at the pantry in 2008 when she helped to establish the St. Isadore Garden on the grounds of the old Central Catholic High School. The garden has since prospered and grown in size and produce. Fresh vegetables are a staple in the summer months due to the hard work of Dorothy and dedicated gardeners like herself. The produce grown in the garden provides pantry clients with opportunity to enjoy fresh tomatoes, chard, peppers, onions, beans, peas, and cucumbers. Over 4,000 pounds of produce have been distributed each year during the past several years.

Many thanks to Dorothy for her leadership and commitment to assisting families in need in the Bloomington-Normal area. She is truly an extraordinary woman!
