What We Learned From COVID-19

When we asked our Volunteers what they learned from COVID 19, they provided the following answers:

  • I learned that is important to tell my family and friends how much I appreciate them – to not wait for holidays, birthdays and special occasions.
  • I didn’t realize how much I would miss chatting to people who visit the Food and Clothes Pantry.
  • I learned to appreciate our health care workers.
  • I have recognized that during this COVID-19 pandemic that anyone can fall on hard times in a crisis such as this and we need to treat them with respect and dignity while we serve them in their time of need. I believe I have heard that 30% of our recent drive-up clients are making their 1st visit to the food pantry.
  • I learned to appreciate the people who work in grocery stores. They worked overtime to make sure that the shelves were stocked as best as possible, and to keep prices down. They also adopted safety rules inside the store to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
  • I benefitted from the quiet time when no one could go outside except for food and other essential items. I thought about what matters most: and it wasn’t exactly the same list as before COVID-19.
  • We have really interesting volunteers! I missed seeing them every week.
  • The leadership of SVdP-HT have done a great job in establishing the guidelines for volunteers and clients in outdoor food distribution to keep everyone safe.
  • I volunteered to stock the pantry with food during COVID-19, and I learned to appreciate how much effort is required every week to stock the pantry before each Monday.
  • I didn’t know how much I would miss going to church until I was not able to go.
